The person who was appointed minister of trade is now in court to fight for a right to maintain a position he held before being appointed minister. The Chief Justice seating as a single judge will continue proceedings on 1st November to hear this landmark case.
It is not clear why the government has not appointed a substantive holder of the position of minister. Currently, people are wondering whether the government is waiting for a court decision before filling the ministerial post. Nonetheless the government should take note that Gambia is an import-oriented country and there is need for a ministry that is monitoring the importation of goods and the tariffs that are linked to them that could lead to price fluctuation.
