The Gambian public in particular and the international community led by Ecowas have been dilating on the slow progress of the steps taken to ensure a referendum on the Constitution for the Third Republic. Since the abortion of the process in 2020 no other effort was made to bring a Bill for the promulgation of a constitution for the Third Republic in 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively.
Despite Foroyaa’s attempt to engage the state to recognize that since cost was involved in holding a referendum it was the duty of the executive to prepare the Bill regarding the Constitution of the Third Republic. We therefore hope that all suggestions given on procedures to be adopted to bring the Constitution of the Third Republic before the people will be debated and the proper ones adopted to ensure success.
All concerned persons should not leave matters alone in the hands of the state. A national debate should commence right away. Foroyaa will not be left behind. Two publications have already been published. Those who have not read them should do so to be fully informed about the substance dealing with constitution building of the Third Republic.
