A publication indicating that the government has claimed that the farm gate price of groundnuts in The Gambia of D38,000 per tonne is more than the world market price compelled Foroyaa to intensify its research on the world market price for groundnuts.
Our findings reveal that the price for high grade nuts for the month of October 2023 is put at $2400 per tonne while the average price of the nuts is put at $2050 per tonne.
Foroyaa is continuing its research and would want the GGC and the government to demonstrate accountability by concretely indicating what grade of nuts is being sold at less that D38,000 per tonne in the world market and where. The farmers in particular and citizens at large are entitled to such information. We hope the president will hold a press conference after his tour and accept such questions from journalists for clarification of the government’s position on the world market price for groundnuts.
