Any government committed to serving the people cannot but rely on transparency and accountability in solving their problems.
Market vendors in Salagie need a market to sell their goods and make a living. The market which they initiated was demolished by Physical Planning, pointing out that it was premised on reserved land which was allocated to Nawec, a public enterprise, for a project. The discontented market vendors have since then returned to the area where they are now squatting.
The police made their presence felt in a threatening manner but did not use force to pelt them out.
Officials from Physical Planning are yet to appear to discuss why and how the land is given to Nawec and alternatives that would lead to a win-win situation. The case of these market vendors is a test of the ability of the Barrow administration in meeting the needs of discontented people.
