Despite protests, arrests, court action and disputes over assumption or vacation of office of Auditor General, the nation appears quiet and waiting for answers. This is the best time that those who have authority to govern should go back to the drawing board and find out what has gone wrong and what ought to be done to provide remedies.
Protests in a democratic society should be done under the ambit of the law. Once that is the case, it serves to alert those who govern and not to change government. Hence a mature government would not be preoccupied with arrests and trials over protests but would rather provide solution to any legitimate demand. This constitutes the art of good governance. Stable nations are ruled by respecting constitutions and laws and not by might.
Foroyaa therefore hopes that Gambia would always be counted among the family of nations whose governments govern according to the constitution and the laws of the land. Both citizens and government are obliged to distance themselves from impunity and embrace the rule of law for the common good.
