The Level Of Poverty In The Country

According to the Gambia Labour Survey, published by GBoS in 2018, the rate of unemployment among the youth is 41.5 percent. A World Bank ‘Equity and Poverty Brief’ indicate that in 2015 48.6 percent (or half the population) lived below the poverty line.

The advent of Covid-19 and rising prices have resulted to loss of income and increased unemployment. Lower remittances and higher health expenditure has compounded the problem, resulting to increased poverty.

Foroyaa will be conducting a survey in poverty stricken areas and publish its findings.
