The KMC and the market women under the Barrow Government

94

Many women are now moving out of the market to sell their produce in the streets. They come around six in the morning to sell their produce and leave around midday to do their cooking.Yesterday the street vendors were cleared by the KMC. The new Barrow Government needs to discuss with the KMC to find out how the Council intends to serve these women who cannot find places at markets in the Kanifing Municipality.
It is important for the police serving the KMC to be properly guided so that they will not show any hostile treatment to the street vendors.
The new administration should show tolerance to people who used to occupy the streets under the past regime. Such changes would require gradual restructuring of markets to accommodate vendors.
