THE GUNS SHOULD BE SILENCED IN CASAMANCE AS SENEGAL HEADS TOWARDS ELECTION

127

The courts in Senegal have taken over to enhance the rule of law before the holding of the 2024 presidential elections. This confers that democracy cannot thrive without independent and impartial courts and other tribunals aimed at proper and fair administration of law and dispensation of justice.

The people of Senegal as a whole are now waiting for the end result of the verdict of the courts. This creates a sense of national unity. All parties should therefore allow the process to reach its ultimate conclusion in order to see whether justice is seen to be done.

There are two phases to justice that citizens must get used to in a democratic society. First and foremost, justice must be done by the courts. Secondly, it must be seen to be done by the people.

The court must therefore be allowed to carry out their task without any interference or prejudgment of their conduct. Ultimately, the people have the time to review the end judgment to determine whether they are reasonable or justifiable in a democratic society. Now that Senegal is entering a very critical stage, those who administer its executive branch should display full respect for those who administer the judicial branch. This is the only way to conserve the integrity of the state in a democratic society.

It is therefore important for the guns in Casamance to be silent so that the people in Senegal will have the opportunity to elect the leaders who could govern their country to deliver peace, liberty, prosperity and sustainable development. This is the demand of the people and it should be respected by all those who love and respect the people.
