The president of the Republic has indicated that a referendum on the Constitution of the Third Republic will take place before the end of December 2024. Foroyaa has made it clear that a Constitution Promulgation would have to be published twice in the Gambia Gazette for a period of no less than three months with regard to the first publication and no less than ten days with regard to the second publication, before it is introduced in the National Assembly.
It is also a requirement for the Bill to be referred to the Independent Electoral Commission within a period of six months. The Attorney General has told the National Assembly that the bill will be submitted to cabinet in the very near future for approval before publication in The Gambia Gazette.
We will continue to monitor developments so that delay will be avoided at all cost. All the decisions must be time bound if the date set by the president is to be adhered to.
