THE CHANGING FACE OF GAMBIAN POLITICS

62

The election agenda appears to be gaining solid ground. The political parties are selecting their presidential candidates. The UDP have selected Adama Barrow as their candidate. The GDC have selected Mama Kandeh as their candidate. The NCP have selected Dr. Lamin Bojang as their candidate. PDOIS have selected Halifa Sallah as their candidate. Dr Isatou Touray is to launch her candidature today. It is just left for the NRP to select its candidate for the nation to be exposed to the individuals who may contest the presidency against Yahya Jammeh.

The Gambian people should give all the candidates their due regard and avoid any attempt to undermine their integrity. They should be allowed to put their programmes before the people and engage in dialogue to form alliances if they wish to act in accordance with the dictates of their electorate.

It is the Gambian population that should free itself from the politics of intimidation, inducement, patronage and parochialism. They should show these presidential candidates that they know what they want and would do everything they can by word and action to get them to do what they want.
