Ten men have pleaded guilty to charges of common nuisance in a case that has drawn attention to ongoing public safety concerns at Kololi Tavan. The proceedings were heard before Magistrate Touray at the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court.

The case, brought by Sgt. 4370 E.M. Jallow on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, involves eleven accused persons who were charged with causing annoyance and danger to the public. The charge sheet alleges that on August 12, 2025, the men, “in exercise of common rights, obstructed or caused annoyance, danger and inconvenience to the public at Kololi Tavan.” The offence is contrary to Section 137(1) of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.

The accused include Dawda Ceesay, Omar Touray, Mustapha Corr, Muhammed Awe, Ebrima Secka, Muhammed Jarju, Lamin Suwareh, Ebrima Krubally, Katim Gaye, Muhammed Mboob and Nfamara Manneh.

When arraigned, ten of the defendants admitted to the charge. Only the 8th accused, Ebrima Krubally, entered a plea of not guilty. Magistrate Touray adjourned the case to August 21, 2025, at 12:30 p.m., when the court is expected to deliver sentencing for the ten who pleaded guilty, and to hear the testimony of the first prosecution witness in the case against Krubally.

The prosecution told the court that the arrests followed repeated complaints from residents of Kololi Tavan. Community members reported incidents of drug abuse, robbery and even attacks on schoolchildren. On August 12, officers of the Kotu Anti-Crime Unit were on patrol in the area when they found the accused. Unable to provide a reasonable explanation for their presence, the men were taken into custody and later charged.
