Yankuba Darboe, the Commissioner General for the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced that the annual revenue collection target for 2024 is 19 Billion Dalasi. The target for 2023 was a little over 15 Billion Dalasi.
Commissioner General Darboe expressed confidence that the target for 2023 will be attained. He did not disclose how much revenue GRA collected so far from January to date. The GRA head said by the end of December, GRA will surpass its 15 Billion revenue target for 2023.
He said the government through the Ministry of finance and Economic Affairs has tasked GRA to collect 19 Billion Dalasi in 2024. He made this disclosure while addressing senior GRA staff during a surprise GRA Board visit to its headquarters in Banjul.
Darboe told the GRA staff about the task that lies ahead of them and he advised them to double their efforts. He asked them to show more commitment and dedication. He said GRA will not let the government down as far as revenue collection is concerned. Darboe demanded for more team spirit, cooperation and commitment, adding that the management and the Board of GRA will do everything humanly possible to support GRA staff to enable them effectively and efficiently deliver to expectation.
For her part, GRA Board chair, Madam Lucy Fye-Jagne commended the staff and management of GRA particularly the leadership for living up to expectation every year in terms of revenue collection. She said the target given to GRA was based on the trust and commitment of GRA has towards national development.
She advised the GRA staff to exhibit the good image of the authority and double their efforts knowing that there are challenges lying ahead of them in 2024. She expressed hope that GRA will meet up the target.
