The Gambia Police Force have charged a gang of alleged robbers with felony and other crimes for committing robbery and burglary within the Kombos.

“We have now charged them with five counts: attempted murder, robbery with violence, burglary and stealing, willful damage to properties, attempt to commit felony and conspiracy to commit felony and receiving stolen properties. As soon as we complete the investigations, they will be arraigned in court,” he noted.

The Commissioner of the Anti-Crime Unit of the Gambia Police Force Ebrima Bah, said his men recently arrested this gang of alleged robbers who have been terrorizing people and breaking compounds.

Commissioner Bah said sometime in July 2024, the patrol team of the Anti-Crime Unit encountered an armed robbery attack at Brufut-Heights. These individuals were conducting illegal activities in two compounds at Brufut, he added.

He said the Anti-Crime Unit of the Police Force was able to arrest one of the alleged robbers, adding: “During our investigations, the individual who was arrested identified some of his accomplices.”

Commissioner Bah said on Sunday, 26th July 2024, the said robbers were rounded up by members of the Anti-Crime Unit at Bijilo and they were all arrested.

He said the alleged robbers who were arrested were: 18-year-old Ebrima Bah alias Q, Assan Sowe, 22-year-old alias Sysco, 23-year-old Sheriff Dibba alias C-Boy, 20-year-old Muhammed Sowe, and Ousman Ceesay alias OC.

Commissioner Ebrima Bah said during the arrest, his men were able to recover three new cutlasses that the alleged robbers normally used on their victims.

“When they attacked a compound at the Brufut Heights, they stabbed a watchman who is still admitted to the hospital,” Commissioner Bah told the press.

He said when these individuals were arrested, they realized that they were doing a lot of criminal activities at Sanchaba, and in Sanchaba alone, they attacked four different compounds in July.

Commissioner Bah said whenever these individuals attacked a compound; they would take all the properties of the victims. “They will take properties like television sets, and mobile phones among other valuable properties.”

He said at Latria Police Station, there are two cases reported there, where they attacked a compound in Jambour and also attacked a woman in Sarre-Pateh and took some valuable materials from her.

“This is a gang that has been terrorizing these two regions, Kanifing Municipality, and the West Coast Region. We captured their illegal activities in our intelligence report and we worked hard to make sure that they were arrested. We recovered a water pumping machine and a motorbike, but we are yet to know the owners of these properties,” he said.

He said among the individuals who were arrested, some of them had ongoing cases in court, but some of them were granted bail. He added some of them broke the cells at Mile II prison and continued doing illegal activities.
