After the court granted bail to the United Democratic Party leader and his people yesterday, a very large crowd welcomed their 
leader and those who were jailed with him at the state’s central prison in Mile Two in Banjul.
Darboe was released on Monday 5th December2016, days after the declaration of Mr. Adama Barrow as the president elect of The Gambia. Lawyer Darboe as well as his people were to serve a three year imprisonment for which they were convicted by the High Court of Banjul.
A crowd of more than two thousand people were seen waiting for the arrival of Darboe. The West Field highway going towards Julbrew junction and Ice Man Junction in Kanifing was congested with people and vehicles whilst some went to Banjul to witness the case and their release.
“I am Yaya Manka Jammeh from Badibou Illiassa” said a man in a coalition T-shirt. He added that there are two ways to show your dissatisfaction to a regime, first is by the ballot box whilst the other is by protesting. When asked he was at the gathering, he responded saying that Mr. Darboe and his co-members protested against the death in custody of their party militant Solo Sandeng which led to their imprisonment.
“President Jammeh swears a lot and fulfills little,” said Mr. Jammeh. He also added that President Jammeh said that he will never surrender power if he loses but he announced his acceptance of the declared results of the elections. “The nation is mightier than President”
He stressed the importance of taking into consideration on the issuance of Voters card and Identity card to only citizens.
Wonto Ceesay of Busumbala said they (women) were not empowered during Jammeh’s regime and a lot of their children went through illegal migration commonly called “back way”. Kaddy Cham told this reporter that her brother left this country with the reason that as long as Jammeh is ruling he will never come back to the Gambia.
