Super Nawettan champions and other participants will today lay hands on their match prizes sponsored by super-nawettan-champs-gunjur-to-receive-prize-todayFIBank.

The ceremony will be staged today morning at the GFF dormitory, Kanifing.

Tournament winners Gunjur and second-placed Banjul were to receive D75,000 and D50,000 respectively as gains for their feats in the community-backed championship.

In a final game ending 2-1 to Gunjur courtesy of controversial last-gasp penalty at the Independence Stadium, the South Coast outfit became the first side outside of the Greater Banjul to clinch the gong.

Prize monies were due to be forked by sponsors FiBank immediately in the aftermath of the game, but teams couldn’t lay hands on the sums owing to the cacophony of noise, mainly from delighted supporters, triggering postponement of the impromptu presentation.

Matters about the prizes have since subsided until murmurings about it gained momentum over the weekend prompting a clarification from the tournament organizing Committee’s Chairman Ba S. Jabbie.

‘We intended to hold the presentation of prizes recently in Gunjur but it coincided with the holding of a political rally there. So we couldn’t hold it. But latest at least this week or by Thursday, teams will be given what is theirs,’ Jabbie, Tells Foroyaa Sport.
