The Bakoteh / Manjai dumpsite has been one of the oldest and renowned dumpsite within the Kanifing Municipality. The dumpsite has created a lot of tension between the communities and the Municipal Council on the management of the site during the past months. Now at the site, the bulldozer works on a daily basis to clear the waste that is dumped daily at the site.

This reporter has confirmed that Kanifing Municipal Council has kept their promise of managing the site. Muhammed Sankareh, the watchmen who takes care of the site informed this reporter that the bulldozer clears the site every day; that the work is not easy as he directs all donkey carts and trucks to dump their waste at a chosen place at the site.

Regarding the burning of waste materials at the site, Mr Sankareh said as of now, materials are yet to be burnt; that the burning is causes by the waste itself because of the heat that accumulates beneath it. Residents beside the site have complained of the poor management of waste at the site. The CEO of KMC, Pa Kalifa Sanyang, said the media should report that the KMC is fulfilling its responsiblity. It could be recalled that the Government has said that the site will be a temporary dumpsite and would be used a transit point.
