Modou Lamin Sanyang, a sports presenter at Star FM & TV, died in a road accident Friday morning while on his way to work.
His motorbike reportedly collided with the rear of a truck that was allegedly parked along the Abuko–Serrekunda highway.
Sanyang, the host of World Sports Daily: Have Your Say, was widely regarded as a dynamic presence in sports journalism and a valued member of the Star media team.
“This devastating loss has left a profound void in our hearts,” Star TV/FM said in a statement. “Struggling to write this announcement feels overwhelming, as we are still coming to terms with this heartbreaking news.”
The network described him as a dedicated professional and a unifying presence among his colleagues.
The Sports Journalists Association–Gambia also mourned his passing, calling him “a young and vibrant sports journalist” whose passion for the field will surely be missed.
“Modou Lamin Sanyang was not only a gifted and dedicated professional but also a compassionate and inspiring individual who left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered,” Star TV/FM added. “His remarkable contributions and positive spirit will remain a legacy that we cherish and honor.”
The police confirmed the accident but said they needed time to review the official report on the circumstances surrounding the crash.
