Singateh, a Gambian international reggae and afro-manding singer based in Norway, on October 10, 2015 performed a free Singateh Holds Concertconcert for Gambian refugees in Italy at Piacenza.

“It is an honor to entertain my brothers in Italy, who are going through difficult conditions. They are struggling because they want the best for their families back home,” Singateh told Foroyaa Newspaper during an online interview.

Tens of thousands of young Gambians have forced their way via the Mediterranean Sea into Italy, seeking a ‘better life’.

But as the ‘back-way’ phenomenon reaches unprecedented levels in recent years, the singer decided to put spotlight on the journey that claimed the lives of many young Gambians.

Singateh’s single, “FaKebba” is one of the most educative songs that address irregular migration.

“I performed at Piacenza, at the refugee camp, the show was a moment of relief with amid me a chance to sing and dance to live performances, the event feature a song that pays tribute to their plight,” he said.

The free concert is organized by Guilia Dappollonioa, an Italian lady married to a Gambian, Abdoulie Jammeh.
