It is amazing that a two-year transition to restore constitutional rule after the coup d’état of 1994 gave birth to the 1997 Constitution. Now the critics of that 1997 Constitution are unable to agree on the content of a constitution for almost nine years, since the change in 2016.
All those who call themselves political leaders should go back to the drawing board and ask themselves the question whether they are committed to the building of a sovereign republic. The following questions are materials for them to answer: What type of change do they want? What type of judiciary, legislature, executive, civil service, security service do they want for the Gambia?
If those who want to lead The Gambia cannot come together to discuss and reach a consensus on how to address such questions, then The Gambia must be seen to be at a crossroads.
Foroyaa will therefore take the initiative to amplify the voices of the people. We will keep the public informed of our findings. The time to talk is now before June.
