A delegation from Sierra Leone’s National Paralympic Committee last week Friday, October 27 arrived in Banjul for a ten-day visit to their Gambian counterparts.
The delegation comprises Marie Hannah Kargbo, a representative of the parents of the athletes; Alie O. Turay, Principal; Araphang Sesay and Babah Kamara, and their coaches in Sierra Leone. The visit, according to stakeholders, will set the pace for mutual cooperation between NPC Gambia and their Sierra Leonean counterparts.
During the ten-day visit, the two parties are expected to exchange ideas and learn from each other, as the dream of both NPCs is for the growth of their respective Paralympic movements.
Hagie Drammeh, a member of the Gambia National Paralympic Committee, said the main responsibility of the Committee is to lead and oversee the Paralympic movement and to deliver the Paralympic games by supporting and enabling Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence.
“We are working closely with partners to ensure that the Gambia is registered and achieves recognition when it comes to the Paralympic games,” he said. Mr Drammeh said being physically challenged does not mean that one cannot contribute or participate in international sporting events. He said what able people can do, the physical challenge can also do but in a different way.
During their stay in the Gambia, the Sierra Leonean delegation will visit the monkey park, crocodile pool, Abuko nature reserve, GNOC, and GFD.
