QUESTION OF THE DAY
Should the National Assembly Members resign?
It is the view of some young people that the National Assembly members should resign for having voted for the imposition of a state of emergency in the Gambia.
It is, however, important for people to realise that without a National Assembly no bill will be passed to enact or reform laws prior to the National Assembly elections to be held in April. Many laws will have to be repealed including the amendment to the Elections Act which gave rise to prohibitive deposits in standing for presidential, national assembly, mayoral and council elections.
Hence, any protest to call for the resignation of National Assembly members at this point will be counterproductive.
