Should Property Frozen By The Commission Be Sold?

QUESTION OF THE DAY

In our view, there are mixed farming centres which should serve as appropriate ground to hold cattle and tractors under public trust. This would in fact assist those in training to know how to maintain livestock, operate tractors and serve the farming communities.

The commission should bear in mind that it is not a court. It is an investigative machinery aimed at establishing the truth so that advice will be given to constituted authority, which if tested through appeal to the Court of Appeal would stand the test of judicial scrutiny.

The debate is still on and should continue, whether a Commission which is in charge of frozen assets should exercise the mandate of having them sold. Wrong should not be fought the wrong way. As the old saying goes, ‘two wrongs cannot make a right’. The question still remains: should frozen assets be sold or held by public trustees until final decision is made?
