QUESTION OF THE DAY
Gambia already has a constitution. There are those who claim that the portion in the draft constitution on marriage will be opposed by them. Interestingly enough the portion they oppose is already in Section 27 of the 1997 Constitution . It reads :
27. Right to marry
“(1) Men and women of full age and capacity shall have the right to marry and found a family.
(2) Marriage shall be based on the free and full consent of the intended parties.”
Read the draft Constitution and compare it with what is quoted.
Hence all those who fail to use sound judgment to request to amendments rather than rejecting the draft outright would end up with the 1997 Constitution which contain similar provisions that are of concern to some people .Ignorance is a disease which misleads innocent citizens.
