SHOULD ELECTRICITY NOT BECOME A CONCERN?

15

The reported electrocution of a man who was felling a tree close to cables transmitting electricity should ring an alarm bell for Nawec to call on all Gambians to consult Nawec before felling a tree or cutting down branches close to distribution or transmission lines.

People are not fully aware of the destructive effect of live current that is disconnected from a transmission belt. Those who are directly impacted would be electrocuted and those who touch them would also be electrocuted. There is need to conduct civic education on what to do when they witness the disconnection of distribution and transmission lines or aim to remove branches or other impediments that could affect transmission or distribution lines. Electricity safety should be the concern of all.
