Seven men have pleaded guilty topublicly publicly d order offenses, including assaulting a police officer, after an incident earlier this month in Kololi Tavan.

Prosecutors said the group — Muhammad Gassama, Alieu Leigh, Modou Sanyang, Dodou Nyang, Kering Minteh, Badou Cham and Lamin Sey — committed the offenses on August 10, 2025, during a confrontation in the Kanifing Municipality.

Court records show that Mr. Gassama was accused of grabbing 1st Class Officer Pierre Jatta by the neck and hitting him in the face while the officer was carrying out his duties. Three others — Mr. Leigh, Mr. Sanyang and Mr. Nyang — were charged with taking part in a public fight, while all seven were accused of behaving in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

Initially, only four of the men faced the “common nuisance” charge, but Prosecutor ASP O. Bobb asked the court to amend the charge sheet to include all seven. Citing Section 218 of the Criminal Offences Act, he said the changes were necessary to reflect the facts of the case.

Magistrate Touray agreed, ordering the prosecution to update the charges before the next hearing.

All seven defendants admitted guilt to the charges. When the case resumes, the prosecution will narrate the facts of the case, after which the accused will be asked whether those facts are true. The magistrate will then decide whether to convict them.
