The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has arrested a Gambian national, Wurry Barry, in connection with the disappearance and killing of 44-year-old Nigerian national, Gabriel Adiaga, whose partially burned body was discovered a day after he was reported missing.
According to police, investigators from the Serekunda Division launched a search after Adiaga’s family in Nigeria lost contact with him for several days. The discovery of a partially burned body at Sting Corner on 15 October 2025 led to Barry’s swift arrest within eight hours.
Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo, Police Public Relations Officer, said in a statement that the suspect confessed to having a violent altercation with Adiaga, which resulted in his death on 13 October 2025.
> “The suspect allegedly attempted to conceal the crime by moving the body, dumping it in a secluded location, and attempting to burn the remains. Critical evidence, including the suspected murder weapon, an iron rod, blood-stained clothing, and the victim’s motorcycle keys, were recovered by investigators,” Sisawo said.
Police said Barry single-handedly cleaned the crime scene, transported the body to Sting Corner, and tried to destroy evidence by setting the remains and other items on fire. He later returned to the victim’s residence to remove bloodstains and further conceal the crime.
> “The GPF investigation team demonstrated outstanding professionalism and due diligence, successfully uncovering the face behind this gruesome act within a remarkably short period,” Sisawo added. “This outcome reflects the growing capacity of the Force to employ intelligence-led policing and forensic investigation in solving complex crimes.”
All recovered exhibits, including the suspected murder weapon, blood-stained clothing, and the victim’s motorcycle and house keys, are in police custody for forensic analysis.
The GPF extended appreciation to community members and partner institutions for their support during the investigation.
Barry remains in custody as police continue their probe to determine the motive behind the killing. The GPF reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, ensuring justice, and maintaining public confidence through professionalism and transparency.
