The National Assembly’s Special Select Committee on the disposal and sale of assets identified by the Janneh Commission visited former President Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh’s residence on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, inspecting the property, crocodile pond, fish pond, and wolf enclosures. The visit is part of an ongoing inquiry into the assets of the former leader.

Pursuant to Section 109(2) of the Constitution and Order 95(5) of the National Assembly Standing Orders, the committee is mandated to investigate the sale and disposal of assets identified by the Janneh Commission and forfeited to the state.

Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay, a member of the committee, said, “We have taken inventory of the left over materials we found there at his residence, crocodile pole, fish pond, the wolfs were the sites we have visited and taken inventory of the materials therein.”

Hon. Ceesay added, “We have seen some materials such as beds and many other items which we taken records of and will be dealing with the issues.”

The items documented during the visit have not been made public, as they are expected to form part of the ongoing investigation. The committee is scheduled to conclude its site visits on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Afterward, the findings and materials recorded will be corroborated before the inquiry continues with witness testimonies.

The committee is required, under the motion establishing its mandate, to submit a final report to the National Assembly within 120 days from its first sitting, unless the mandate is extended by resolution. Majority Leader Hon. Billay G. Tunkara noted while moving the motion, “The Committee shall submit its final report to the National Assembly no later than one hundred and twenty (120) days from the date of its first sitting, unless the mandate of the Committee is extended by a resolution of the Assembly.”

However, during the debate on the motion, lawmakers agreed to allow the committee four months to conduct its inquiry and report back its findings. Once submitted, the report will be tabled before the plenary for consideration and adoption, after which its recommendations are expected to be implemented to address any defects identified by the committee.
