Security Guard Admits Depositing Over D300,000 in Manager’s Private Account

Alagie Jitteh, a security guard working  under the municipal police unit of the Kanifing Municipality has on Wednesday admitted before the Local Government Commission of Inquiry that he had made several deposits in the private account of the Manager of Serrekunda Market.

The witness had on several transactions deposited in the private account of the market manager, Modou A. Njie. The total amount he deposited was Three Hundred and Ten Thousand Dalasi (D310,000). When asked about the deposits, the witness confirmed to the Commission that he was the one doing the deposits into the account of Manager Modou Njie.

“Yes, if you add the entire deposit, it is up to this amount,” the witness answered.

The witness was actually under the security unit of the council while Modou Njie works under the market unit. He said Njie used to call him to do the depositing in the account.

The witness said he began working in the Kanifing Municipal Council on 1 October 2019. He did not come with his appointment letter and the confirmation letter. He promised to bring them tomorrow.

The written statement of the witness dated 8 July 2024 was tendered and admitted in evidence.

The witness was working in the municipal police. The witness said he used to deposit funds in the account of Modou Njie, the market manager. He explained that he was posted at the car park in Serrekunda. He said that while at work, Modou Njie used to call him from his duty post to come to the market. He added that when he comes, Njie would give him cash with his account number to deposit at the Trust Bank account. He said he used to deposit at least Ten Thousand Dalasi (D10,000) and sometimes Twenty Thousand Dalasi (D20,000) or more.
