Mr. Sulayman Samba, the Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service, has been removed from his position yesterday, 5 January 2017, according to a news release broadcast on GRTS television last evening.

However, the release did not announce any replacement for Mr. Samba as the outgoing president has only 14 days left to the expiry of his term of office on 19 January 2017.

Mr. Samba was appointed as Secretary General, Head of the Civil Service and Minister for Presidential Affairs on 23 November 2015 and removed from these positions on 30 June 2016.

He was subsequently held without trial for seven days at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) headquarters in Banjul as from Friday, 22nd July 2016.

He was replaced by  Mr Dodou Bammy Jagne but on Thursday, 18 August, 2016 Mr. Jagne was relieved of his position as Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service and Minister of Presidential Affairs and redeployed to the portfolio of Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure. Mr Samba was then reappointed as the Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service, a position he held till his removal yesterday.
