SECOND READING OF CONSTITUTION (PROMULGATION) BILL POSTPONED

13

The constitution building/making process is at a crossroads. The 27th of March 2025 was scheduled for the second reading.

In 2020, the National Assembly members were caught by surprise as they got ready to support the Bill to pass to the Committee stage, when few members would not allow the Constitution (Promulgation) to pass without considering the principles and merits of Bill. The whole CRC process was aborted.

Now all Gambians know that the Constitution (Promulgation) Bill 2024 would face the same fate if there is no consultation on what should happen at the second reading. Foroyaa has been reliably informed that the Attorney General has requested for a postponement of the second reading to facilitate more discussion on the matter prior to the debate and subsequent vote to be taken by the National Assembly.

Foroyaa is urging all Gambians to focus on the constitution building/making process in order to build consensus on the right steps to take on the subject matter. Foroyaa will cover all initiatives on the subject matter to steer the process forward.
