The availability, accessibility and affordability of drugs to cure illnesses must be of primary concern to the government and those stakeholders in the private sector who are now in charge of the delivery of pharmaceuticals.
There is need for a national monitoring system of the quantity of drugs that are needed on a quarterly, semi-annual and annual basis and to make maximum effort to ensure their availability, accessibility and affordability to the consumers. Many Gambians are having illnesses that would require normal saline and other life saving medicaments whose lack of availability could lead to speedy death.
Foroyaa will interview doctors and pharmacists on this subject matter and convey their observations to the policy makers and regulators in the industry so that the problems of drug scarcity will be speedily addressed.
