By Sulayman Bah Demba Savage has proved the most successful Gambian import in Demba Savage 1Finnish football after scooping three titles on an unhindered back-to-back motion in three years. An expensive buy from Honka Espoo in 2012, Demba Savage has proven an acquisition worth the trouble HJK had to put up with in convincing their then title rivals to part with their prized asset. In his debut season for the capital-based outfit -the Scandinavian country’s most recognized domestic team – meant extension of the white and blues continuous dominance in the top flight. Since then, domineering they have been. But the counting of such unprecedented feat can’t be done without the mention of the little winger from Gambia who’d been nucleus for all the gains HJK lays hand on. With this, HJK’s qualification to the Europa League comes to mind in which he single-handedly broke the hoodoo that has long beset the capital side with his decisive goal from-the-spot-kick forcing fans off their seats in sheer elation in the three-all draw to Austria Salzburg. He had to put up with missing blizzard of crucial games at the setout of this year’s championship including bit of the team pre-season outings but the Finnish 2014 Premier League campaign is never going to draw its windows shut without the Gambian basking in the limelight. Such was his thirst for goal and importance that HJK literally stuttered in his absence rendering him irreplaceable. This season alone he’d scored ten goals and counting in twenty appearances – and might rake in few more with four games to spare – totaling an impressive record of thirty-three goals in sixty –nine appearances in his three-year association with the club. Already Helsinki are champions with four games to spare to end of the championship as Savage delectably adds to his trophy cabinet –his third league title with a combine nine career medals which include four runners-up gongs, all acquired in Finland. He epitomizes not a tale worth telling but as well the most successful Gambian player in the Scandinavia only matched by Pa DemboTouray somewhat. On Thursday (today), he will seek to replicate his domestic feat into the Europa League with a hope of putting a surgical correction to his club blip in their opening game when he faces-off with Belgian Club Club DeBrugge in a group B encounter. HJK is bottom-placed on zero points behind leaders Copenhagen, Torino and Brugge who each has a point.  ]]>
