Belgian club Genk’s huge price tag on Omar Colley was result of the Gambian’s failed proposed move to Italian club Sampdoria, according to the player’s agent.
‘I can say that the basics of all have been the demands of the club. The transfer was not possible because of Genk’s high demands,’ reveals Ferhat Cific, agent to the Gambia national team captain.
The Italian club tabled a €5m offer before lodging an improved proposal thought to be €8m, two million euros shy of Genk’s €10m valuation of the defender.
Sampdoria were desperate to fill the void left by defender Krinar’s departure to Inter Milan and view the left-sided Scorpions’ captain as a like-for-like replacement for the Serbian.
The Serie A side are a big club and Genk’s foot dragging was aimed at exploiting Sampdoria’s desperation by refusing to budge on their asking price in the hope Colley’s suitors will cough up more.
It was not until in the eleventh hour when Genk opted to soften its stance, but it came too late too little for a deal to be brokered.
Sampdoria have not ruled out making a bid for the Gambian again when the transfer window reopens.
