By Mustapha Jallow Information received indicates that Mr Sait Matty Jaw, a young Gambian resident at New Jeshwang, was arrested and detained along with a Ghanaian and a Nigerian by state security agents. They are said to be detained at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) on 4 November, 2014. They were picked up from the Brikama Campus of the University of The Gambia. According to a family source, Mr Jaw, an Administrative Assistant at the University of The Gambia, has been detained at the NIA headquarters in Banjul for 6 days now without appearance in court. This exceeds the 72 hours limit as mandated by the Constitution of The Gambia. Mr Seth Kande a Ghanaian, and Mr Femi, a Nigerian were arrested and detained on the same day as Mr Jaw. The NIA headquarters was contacted to enquire about the arrest and continued detention of the young Gambian, Ghanaian and Nigerian but the attempt proved futile as the land-phone keeps ringing without any answer from them. Mr Jaw is also a Researcher, who is involved in some academic research for The University of The Gambia, especially the advancement of women’s rights, has over ten years experience working with children, women and young people focusing on empowerment and policy advocacy. According to sources, he has helped co-founded numerous youth and student organisations and also served in leadership positions.]]>
