The high court in Banjul yesterday 12 May adjourned the trial of Mr Momodou
Sabally, the erstwhile Secretary General, Head of the Civil Service and Minister for Presidential Affairs.
Hadi Saleh Barkum, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) intimated to the trial judge, Justice Emmanuel Amadi of the Special Criminal Division of the Banjul High Court, that the Managing Director of Social Security and Housing Finance Cooperation, Mr. Edward Graham, who is supposed to testify as the seventh prosecution witness is currently engaged at the sittings of the PAC/PEC committee of the National Assembly.
DPP Barkum continued, “My clerk told me that the Assembly cannot release the witness. I am sorry for any inconvenience”.
However, lawyer Antouman Gaye said he has no objection, noting that the legislature is the law makers.
The trial judge adjourned the case to today the 13th of May 2015 at 11:30am.
Mr. Sabally is facing eight charges ranging from two counts of ‘Economic Crimes’, three counts of ‘Abuse of Office’, two counts of ‘Neglect of Official Duty’ and a single count of ‘Giving False Information to a Public Officer. He however denies any wrong doing.
The prosecution has so far called 6 witnesses to prove their case.
