The alarming erosion of the main road of the North Bank between Kuntaya and Jamagen and the large potholes that made the Brikama Highway at the Churchill’s Town Junction impassable for quite a while, signal the danger of building roads without establishing a proper maintenance regime. Foroyaa pointed this out to the National Roads Authority, and they acknowledged that road maintenance is a challenge.
According to the authorities they intend to initiate a project to handle road maintenance. This project is too late, and immediate action should be taken to address the problem to avert millions being spent by the government for the construction of new roads.
They should look for a speedy approach to handle the problem in the short run while the NRA waits for longer term projects.
The NRA should visit Jobe Street to see how potholes are being deepened by the waste that is dumped on them. No country that is interested in development can allow such road conditions even for a day not to talk of weeks and months. The matter has been related to the NEA but nothing is forthcoming to provide a remedy. Nobody seems to be in charge. That is the tragedy of the situation.
