A Republic is impossible to maintain without a citizen who cherishes
his or her sovereignty. The sovereignty of a person is meaningless ifone does not exercise the power to determine who manages the affairs
of a country.
Needless to say if one does not participate, others would determine
how the country is governed. In that case it is futile to complain if
one is not satisfied with the performance of a government.
Voter apathy is brought about by citizens who are spectators instead
of architects of their destiny. Such people are citizens only in name.
The voter’s card is the power of the citizens. It gives the person
equal say in determining the affairs of the country. Whoever does not
have it is a lesser citizen than those who have it. Those who do not
have it are the voiceless and powerless citizens.
