The first division league is almost halfway and the reigning champions Real de Banjul are leading the pack as the 16-team table standing continues to take shape. Head coach Ebrima Jatta has made his intention known when this season teed off asserting that second place is not enamoured at the club. He’s already won a double and aims to make it a hat-trick by winning this season as well.

“In Real de Banjul there is no second place. Everything needs to be on top of the table, that’s Real de Banjul. It is a marketing team. You cannot market your players when you are losing,” Coach Jatta told journalist Fatou B Camara in a post-match interview last November.

Following their win in match week 13, the defending champions have extended their lead at the top to four points. The Whites defeated rock-bottom occupants Greater Tomorrow 3-1 at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama on Saturday.

Pa Abdou Cham broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute of the game before Sarjo Fofona doubled their lead two minutes before the hour mark. Shiekh Jaw, who returned from a trial in Turkey, came on from the bench in the 70th minute to score Real’s third goal five minutes later. Greater Tomorrow reduced the deficit in extra time (90+2 minutes) courtesy of Mamadou Jallow.

Real have now garnered 27 points with 8 wins, 3 draws, and 2 losses and Coach Jatta has told his club’s media after Saturday’s win that he is still confident they will win the league.
