The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will officially commence the nomination process for candidates in the Half-Die Ward by-elections today Thursday, April 10.
This election, governed by Section 23 of the Local Government Act, will take place within the Banjul Administrative Area.
The IEC has laid out the schedule for the candidate nominations, with each political party allocated a specific day. The National People’s Party (NPP) will nominate its candidates on Thursday, April 10; the People’s Alliance Party (PAP) on Friday, April 11; and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
The nomination period will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the IEC’s Banjul Regional Office, the commission confirmed.
Following the nomination process, the official campaign period will commence on Monday, April 14, and run until Thursday, April 24, 2025, according to the IEC.
This by-election is pivotal, as it seks to fill a vacant seat in the Half-Die Ward, an area within the Banjul Administrative Region.
The race is expected to see intense competition as political parties gear up for a critical local government election.
The outcome of this by-election is anticipated to have a significant impact on the balance of political power within the region.
