Having lost 40 million dalasi,GGC is moving away from secco presidents giving cash payments to farmers after weighing their nuts to the issuing of Qmoney through their telephones to be collected from any AGIB branch, or Qmoney agent or money transfer agents such as Yonna.
Some negative experiences have been noted by the president of the farmers platform, which has been conveyed to the Qmoney authorities for immediate remedy. This paper has been informed that all farmers should receive their cash in full without any deduction when cashing out as has been experienced by some farmers we interviewed.
The leadership of the farmers’ platform does not want any delay or deduction in the payment of farmers’ dues. Hence all those agencies that are to pay farmers should have adequate cash to pay the whole sum that is due to each farmer without any delay.
Since the system is new, there is need for collaboration between department of cooperative development, GGC, the federation of cooperatives, and Qmoney authorities to explain the procedure of buying and selling groundnuts so that every farmer will know his or her rights. This should be done as soon as possible to win the confidence of the farmers.
