The Association of Non-governmental Organization in collaboration with the Gambia Federation of Disabled, and the Government of the Gambia sensitized forty persons with disability (PWD) on the importance of immunization and vaccination.

The persons with disability were encouraged by health workers from the Ministry of Health to ensure their children are vaccinated especially for polio.

During the engagement, the persons with disabilites called for the presence of sign language interpreters at health centres across the country so that they can access them. They also appealed for the inclusion of sign language interpreters during health talk shows on television programs.

The sensitisation program targeted the PWD to encourage them to vaccinate their children for polio vaccinations.

Magistrate Kurbally, the Chairperson of the Gambia Federation of the Disabled and National Disabled Advisory Council said that persons with disability have the right to health care.

He further said diseases can cause disability in people, saying that disability is linked to healthcare.

He added that some of the persons with disability are vulnerable when it comes to health, adding that the disabled should get access to healthcare.

He said the sensitisation is geared towards making them aware of the polo vaccination so that they can protect themselves.
