The Public Service Ministry has indicated their intention to set up a body that will review salaries and allowances of government workers in The Gambia.

Speaking to lawmakers, veteran educationist, and Minister of the Public Service Commission, Baboucarr Bouye, said they took note of the concerns of the lawmakers on salaries and allowances. He stated that his Ministry realised that the Government had a standing Salary Review Commission, which is no longer exists.

“We have now decided that we are going to institute something like that and under the Chairmanship of the Permanent Secretary, Personnel Management Office, we will be looking at all these issues surrounding salaries and allowances,” he said.

He indicated salary increment is a concern, but warned that it is an issue that should be approached with care. He said the outcome of the review will be discussed at the level of the executive and the matter will be brought back to parliament for consideration.

“I can inform to you that work is in progress,” the Minister said.
