The brief of the prosecution on the no case to answer submission by the defence in Muntaga Sallah’s case before the Banjul Magistrates’ court was adopted by the court yesterday, 17 November.
The defence led by Mrs Janet Sallah Njie had earlier filed the brief of the defence in its no case submission. Now the court has ruled that the defence can reply to the brief of the prosecution. The matter was adjourned till 23 November, 2016 at 1:30 pm for the defense to reply on the prosecution’s brief.
Muntaga Momodou Sallah, a former permanent secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum, is standing trial for allegedly stealing three HP computers valued at 25,445 dollars (approximately 990,600 dalasi).
According to the particulars of offence, Mr. Sallah while serving as permanent secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum, without approval, purchased three HP computers worth $25,445 which he later stole and took to his home in Senegambia.
Mr. Sallah is also accused of abusing his office when he instructed, without approval, the purchase of the computers. The incident is said to have happened in the month of November, 2014, in Banjul. He pleaded not guilty as charged.
