PRESIDENT BUHARI LAID TO REST

News from Nigeria indicate Ex President Buhari died of a long illness. His body had to be ferried from London for burial in Nigeria. Flags in Nigeria are on half mast and a public holiday was declared to mourn his death.

His career as a soldier led him to have one of the most controversial experiences in the political history of Nigeria. He led governments that was the result of two coups d’etat only to be overthrown. Interestingly enough, he came back to prominence after standing and winning a presidential race. He was able to serve for two terms and then handed over to the current president, President Bola Tinubu.

Gambians should sign his condolence book because of the role he, President Sirleaf, President Mahama and President Earnest Bai Koroma played during the impasse. He was instrumental in giving Gambia prominence.

The lesson is clear. Human beings will be remembered for both the good and evil they have done on this earth. At least the service he rendered to The Gambia will never be forgotten.
