President Barrow Receives 28 Diplomats

In a communique from the State House dated 24th April, 2024, the presidency indicated that the President of the Republic of the Gambia, Adama Barrow on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 received twenty-eight (28) diplomats from across the globe.

The engagement, which was geared towards strengthening bilateral relationships between the Gambia and the said countries, was held at the State House in Banjul. Upon receiving the high-level diplomats, the Gambian leader told them of his Government’s willingness to expand the scope of mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries, “particularly in response to their shared aspiration for global prosperity, peace, and stability.” They called for active partnerships and constant dialogue, as well as creating the space for people-to-people partnerships. 

President Barrow further stated the critical roles of the diplomats in accomplishing these goals and called for collaboration to realise the Recovery-Focused National Development Plan (RF NDP) – YIRIWA goals.

Among the 28 diplomats include representatives from the following countries: Republic of Turkiye; The Republic of Portugal⁠; Republic of Finland; Kingdom of Norway; Republic of Austria; Arab Republic of Egypt; Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka; Republic of Vatican; Republic of Azerbaijan; Kingdom of the Netherlands; Republic of Canada; Republic of Poland; Republic of Ghana; The Republic of Pakistan; the Kingdom of Belgium; The Republic of Malaysi,.The Republic of Tunisia; The Republic of Zimbabwe; The Republic of Italy; The Republic of Australia; The Republic of Angola; Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; The Republic of Guinea; The State of Palestine; The Republic of India; the Republic of Burkina Faso; The Democratic Republic of Congo; and The Republic of Uganda.

These diplomatic engagements were critical as the country prepares to host one of the biggest diplomatic events, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit, early next month.
