President Adama Barrow on Thursday 28th January, 2021, gave the Gambia U20 football team, who were in November last year crowned champions of the WAFU Trophy Zone A in the finals against Senegal, team two million dalasi.

The team alongside GFF officials and the technicians were accompanied to President Barrow by the Hon. Minister of Youths and Sports, Bakary Badjie.

President Barrow hailed the team for emerging victorious while urging them to remain committed, united, and focused on raising the flag of The Gambia high.

He equally applauded GFF, particularly the coach and his technical team, for delivering such victory for the country.

President Barrow encouraged the boys to keep up the stamina, describing football as a profitable profession, saying it can make a huge difference in their lives and The Gambia stands to benefit too.

As the team prepares for the AFCON finals in Nouakchott, Mauritania, the President urged them to maintain discipline and continue to play as a team to succeed. He assured the delegation that his government puts high premium on sports, and will continue to support its advancement in the country.

A presentation of two million dalasi to the team climaxed the event.
