Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between The Republic of the Gambia and the Kingdom of Spain on the recruitment of Gambians to work in Spain, the Gambia government through the Public Employment Services Unit of the Department of Labour under the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Employment on Monday began the distribution of forms to prospective applicants.
Despite the terms and conditions, the number that will be going in the first batch not being made public, Foroyaa found hundreds of prospective applicants at the Department of Labour which was supposed to host applicants from Banjul and Kanifing Municipality (KM).
Security officers were deployed to the ground to help control the crowd on the ground and forms were given to prospective applicants who formed into three queues.
Applicants according to the recent government press release must be Gambian nationals between 25 and 50 years of age in possession of a valid Gambian passport for at least ONE year with experience in agriculture, ideally in fruit picking and handling.
It is evident that those recruited will be working in the agricultural sector as the forms include questionnaire of: Agricultural training; experience in agriculture; knowledge on safety procedures for agricultural activities and or fruit picking etc.
Meanwhile, shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview to determine the final selection and the interview panel will comprise the Spanish Office of Labour, Migration and Social Security officials, the Spanish Embassy in The Gambia and the Spanish employer.
