President Adama Barrow has ordered for the release of all those who were unlawfully detained and not taken before any court of law and which the police are still working on to facilitate. However, there are still some families who are looking for their detained loved ones who are yet to be released and of which Foday Conta, the police Public Relations Officer (PRO), has been giving assurance that they are still working on facilitating their immediate release.
Tumani Jallow, who was arrested since October 2016, has also not been released. Jallow was arrested at his work place in state house by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and was detained at the NIA headquarters in Banjul.
Abdoulie Jallow, a relative, told Foroyaa that the arrest of their relative is related to the alleged arson attack on the APRC bureau in Kanifing South. “I went to the NIA headquarters but they said he is not in their custody,’’ he said.
Jamanti Kenyi, who was arrested in November 2016, is not yet released, according to a family source.
He is said to have been arrested by the Police in Bakau and was detained in Jeshwang.
Binta Touray said their relative was arrested and accused of stealing a radio. “We are calling on the Authorities to facilitate the release of our loved one,” she said.
Ebrima Sanyang, a resident of Farato, is also not among the released detainees. According to Kebba Njie, Ebrima was arrested by the Farato police and was detained at Mile Two.
The family is also calling on the authorities to release their loved one who is the breadwinner of the family.
This reporter visited the Police Public Relation Officer (PRO) to find out the reason why these detainees are not yet released. Inspector PRO Foday Conta told foroyaa that they are still working hard to make sure that their duties are fulfill. “We know that it is not easy for someone to miss his or her loved one. We are working hard to make sure that the detainees who are unlawfully detained are all released,” assured the Police PRO.
PRO Conta said they will be revisiting all the detenetion centres around the country to facilitate the release of all the detainees as ordered by the President Barrow.
