The Gambia Police Force has launched an investigation into the suspected murder of a 22-year-old woman in the Upper River Region, a police spokesman confirmed on Tuesday.

Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo, spokesperson for the police, said the incident occurred in Bernabeh Village, Sandu District, and was initially reported to the Criminal Investigation Department at the Basse Police Station. He said investigators and forensic officers responded swiftly to the scene following the report.

“The area has been secured, and investigations are ongoing,” the police said in a statement. No further details have been released about the victim or the circumstances surrounding her death.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm as inquiries continue. Sisawo said additional information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
