Police Officer Sues Gambia Police Force Claiming Over D5 Million

Sambujang Fatty, the Deputy Police Commissioner of Police responsible for Policy, Planning, Research and Training Departments in the Gambia Police Force has sued the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for unlawful termination of contract. The IGP is jointly sued with the Attorney General.

Sambujang had written a petition to the Gambia Government about the Gambia Police Force before the termination of his contract.

Sambujang wants the court to make a declaration that the termination of his appointment from the Gambia Police Force on  2nd October 2024 by the Public Service Commission is unlawful. He wants the court to pass an order directing his immediate reinstatement to his position and rank in the Gambia Police Force. Further he wants the court to pass an order directing the Gambia Police Force to pay all entitlements due to him from 2 October 2024 to the date of the reinstatement. He wants the court to declare that his dismissal did not comply with due process. The officer is asking for D5,000,000 (five million dalasi) as damages for wrongful termination. Further, he wants the court to pass an order to institute an independent and impartial investigation into the petition with a view to improving police service delivery and support tangible police reforms.
